Introduction to The Depths

    "The Depths" is the name of a sinkhole on the ocean floor. Nobody has been able to fully explore it due to the difficulty of getting to it and exploring it. What is known of it is still a vast amount of knowledge that rivals much of what the outside world has to offer. 

    The Depths is extremely wide being estimated to be at least two kilometers in diameter and at least ten kilometers vertically. The ecosystem of the depths is about as varied as the rest of the planet if not more.

    As an example due to the diameter the ecosystem on the sides of the hole have developed completely differently. One side could be a glowing place filled with bioluminescence while the other could be pitch black and the creatures would rely on other senses instead of sight to navigate and feed.

    Recent expeditions have also found a lost civilization at around the five kilometers down. It was a large empire the spanned much of the explored depths but mysteriously they seemed to have left.

    Due to the difficulty of tracking the depths the farther into the depths you go people do not know the farthest anybody has gone down. Only a few have made it to what they claim to be the deepest. The thing that always stays consistent in stories about the deepest explored parts of The Depths is they begin seeing a light far down in The Depths. Nobody knows what it could be but there are numerous theories on the matter.

    Due to all of the draws of The Depths many people have moved and lived nearby the depths. Some of the more fanatical have decide to live in the depths itself but not many of them survive for long. Many groups of the sea desire to know more of The Depths, in hopes of either exploiting or harnessing it.
